Ages 4-12:  Any player born on or after May 1, 2006 and prior to May 1, 2015 will be eligible for Cal Ripken Baseball League competition.

The season will run from mid-April through mid-June.

Cal Ripken Divisions

Single A:  ages 4-6  (or Pre-K & Kindergarten)  Cost: $90

Ballplayers learn hitting and fielding fundamentals in a supportive team environment.  Young athletes hit the ball from a batting tee which is height-adjusted for a level swing, batting in order through the line-up for the entire game.  The primary goal is to begin to instruct young players in the fundamentals of baseball in a supportive team environment.

Practices/games are played during the week and may also include some weekend times.  Fields are TBD but will likely be in both Mendon and Upton.  Spring season only (no summer season).

Double A:  ages 7-8  (or 1st & 2nd grades) Cost: $120

This division makes use of coach pitch to allow for more hittable balls at the plate and more action in the field.  Fear of actually being hit by a pitched ball is diminished. It makes the game safer and improves the playing confidence and ability of all participants.  Players that are ready and able may start to pitch as well.

Spring season practices and games are played during the week and weekend.  Fields will be in both Mendon and Upton. All spring activities are within the Nipmuc Youth Baseball organization.  However, the summer season will feature games played against surrounding towns.

Minors:  ages 9-10  (or 3rd & 4th grades) Cost: $180

Players continue to build and refine their fundamental skills while beginning to understand game strategy and teamwork. The games are played on 46’ (pitching distance) x 60’ (base paths) diamonds and include umpires calling the games.

Spring season includes interleague games against other Nipmuc Youth Baseball teams along with teams from our Cal Ripken District (Douglas, Milford, Northbridge, Sutton & Uxbridge) and other surrounding towns (Hopedale, Blackstone, etc.)

Games are generally six innings and include pitching rules to limit the number of pitches a player can throw along with playing rules for other players (continuous batting order, playing time, limited stealing rules, etc.)  League guidelines are contained in a separate document.

Majors:  ages 11-12  (or 5th & 6th grades) Cost: $190

The most experienced level of Cal Ripken Baseball is played under Official Baseball Rules, but implements some special rules as necessary for the development and welfare of this young age group.  The games are played on 50' x 70' diamond with patched umpires and are intended to prepare the players for moving to the big diamond (Babe Ruth).  Some of the major differences include leading, unlimited stealing, dropped 3rd strike, etc.

SUMMER SEASON allows for multiple options:

Ripken All Stars – Most competitive. Teams will play on the Ripken tournaments trail (Districts, States, Regionals, World Series) and will also play in various local tournaments played on weekends. Season wraps up near end of July.

Sizzler – Fairly competitive. Teams play in a summer long tournament in either Hopkinton (Sizzler). The games are played during the week but may include some weekend games. Season wraps up by mid-July.

Town Ball – Least competitive. Teams play against other surrounding towns with the games played during the week.

FALL SEASON is a chance for the kids “moving up” in the spring to get some experience on the field and in games before the spring season and also allows for the players entering their second year to get more experience as well. Games are played against surrounding town teams. The competition of this level has been mixed.

The spring, summer and fall programs are the same as the Minors division.

Recreational spring program for kids of all skill levels.  The First Session begins in mid-April and runs through the end of May. Games are primarily on weekends with some light travel to local towns.  Second Session begins in late May and runs to late June or early July. Games are played primarily on the weekends, however there may also be one weeknight game a week.

Cost:  $295 full season
