Summer Teams

Updated Thursday May 31, 2018 by Nipmuc Youth Baseball.

Nipmuc Youth Baseball intends to field several tiers of all-star teams for players in the Minors and Major divisions. The teams will be formed for 9U, 10U, 11U and 12U and follow the Cal Ripken age guidelines (April 30 cutoff). The only exception to this rule will be if the Board identifies a need due to a limited number of players.

Cal Ripken All Stars** – most competitive

The NYB summer all stars have been competing on the Ripken trail for many years – and experienced one team making it to Regionals (twice). The Ripken trail is similar to the Little League World Series that is aired on ESPN and ABC – but, on a smaller scale.

The Ripken teams will play on the trail (Districts, States, Regionals and World Series) and, depending on how successful they are, will also play in local weekend tournaments. The tournaments are played against other town program all-star teams and the competition is top notch and the kids have a great time creating memories that will last a lifetime. The season wraps up near end of July, early August – depending on how the team does. The location of the games / tournaments could vary week to week.

NYB is also intending to continue to have at least the 12U team play in a regional tournament such as the Ripken Experience (Aberdeen, MD) or heading to Cooperstown (NY).

Sizzler** – competitive

Teams play in a summer long tournament in Hopkinton (Sizzler Summer league).  The games are played during the week but may include some weekend games. The season wraps up by mid-July.

** Players must play in >60% of the spring games to qualify for these levels of play. This requirement is in place to ensure that the players representing our communities are involved with our program – and is no different than the requirements across other baseball programs. Summer coaches are also required to be involved in the spring league as a coach and attend >75% of all team practices and games.

Summer Classic (a.k.a. Town Ball) – least competitive

Teams play against other surrounding towns with the games played during the week.

Please Note:  By checking the box during registration stating your child is interested in playing on one of these teams does not guarantee a spot, it states that he or she is interested in continuing to play baseball in the summer.  You are also stating that your child will be available to play throughout that session with very limited to no games or practices being missed.
